In a significant step toward advancing development in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially signed the state’s 2025 budget into law. The ₦1.1 trillion budget, aptly named the “Budget of Inclusive Growth and Development,” prioritizes critical sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure.
The proposal, initially presented to the Rivers State House of Assembly on December 30, 2024, was swiftly reviewed and approved under the leadership of Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo. Governor Fubara expressed his appreciation to the Assembly members for their collaborative spirit and to his executive team for their dedication to ensuring this budget aligns with the state’s developmental goals.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Governor emphasized the administration’s vision for a prosperous future:
> “We are embarking on a journey of inclusive growth, focusing on the areas that matter most to our people—education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Together, we will build a better Rivers State for all.”
The 2025 budget reflects a considerable increase from the ₦800 billion allocated in the previous year, signaling a bold commitment to driving development. However, the process hasn’t been without controversy. The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has raised concerns, accusing the Governor of bypassing the 27-member factional Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule, an ally of former Governor Nyesom Wike. This echoes similar disputes that arose during the 2024 budget presentation.
Despite the political friction, the Fubara administration remains steadfast in its dedication to improving the lives of Rivers State residents. The newly enacted budget aims to deliver enhanced public services, robust infrastructure projects, and opportunities for sustainable growth.
