Banditry Surge in South-West: Gani Adams Criticizes Governors’ Inaction

The Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, and various security groups, including the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and the Hunters’ Association, have raised concerns over the growing influx of bandits and terrorists from the North into the South-West.

Adams and his allies criticized South-West governors for failing to collaborate with them in tackling this alarming trend.

Adams Blasts Governors Over Security Inaction

Gani Adams revealed that despite multiple attempts to engage state governments on addressing the security threat, no responses have been received.

Speaking through his media aide, Kehinde Aderemi, Adams stated, “The South-West will not be a safe haven for bandits or terrorists.

We have over 10 private security groups under my leadership, prepared to combat this menace and restore peace.”

OPC and Hunters Call for Approval

OPC representatives expressed their readiness to assist in securing the region but emphasized the need for official backing from governors.

Alao Olusola, Deputy Coordinator of OPC in Ogun State, disclosed that letters sent to governors and traditional rulers for collaboration have gone unanswered.

Meanwhile, the Hunters’ Association lamented being sidelined by the Ondo State government despite their grassroots expertise in tackling insecurity.

Amotekun Corps: 21 Suspects Arrested in Ondo

The South-West Security Network, Amotekun Corps, continues its fight against criminal activities in the region.

Adetunji Adeleye, Chairman of South-West Amotekun Commanders, announced the recent arrest of 21 suspected criminals in Ondo State.

Adeleye assured residents of the Corps’ commitment to making the region inhospitable for criminal elements. “Our new strategies are yielding results, and we remain vigilant to protect our people,” he said.

Calls for Unified Action

Despite the efforts of independent security groups like OPC, Amotekun, and hunters, stakeholders insist that a collaborative approach with state governments is necessary for long-term success.

They urged governors to prioritize security partnerships to prevent the South-West from becoming overrun by criminal elements.
