Rivers State’s suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has refuted allegations made against him by the former Head of Service, George Nwaeke, dismissing them as falsehoods influenced by external forces.
Fubara Reacts to Nwaeke’s Accusations
On Friday, Nwaeke accused Fubara of fueling the political crisis in Rivers State, collaborating with militants to orchestrate pipeline bombings, and masterminding the destruction of the state House of Assembly in 2023.
However, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday morning, Fubara urged the public to ignore Nwaeke’s claims, asserting that he had either been bribed or pressured into making the allegations.
“Nwaeke Has Been Compromised” – Fubara
Fubara explained that he would typically not respond to such accusations, but he needed to clarify the misinformation spreading among Rivers residents and Nigerians.
He debunked Nwaeke’s claim that he was part of secret meetings where Fubara allegedly backed Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s 2027 presidential bid.
“It is laughable that Dr. Nwaeke would be part of any high-level political meeting as Head of Service, much more sitting in my alleged night meetings with Bala Mohammed and militants, as he claimed. None of such meetings ever held,” Fubara stated.
Denies Allegations of Pipeline Attacks
Fubara also dismissed claims that he held meetings to encourage attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets, maintaining that he had never collaborated with militants or criminal groups to destabilize the state.
“It is on record that I have been at the forefront of preaching peace in the state, even in the face of obvious provocations,” he added.
Fubara Calls for Public Disregard
The suspended governor insisted that Nwaeke’s statements were a result of external influence, stating:
“The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me.”
As the political drama in Rivers State unfolds, residents and political analysts continue to monitor the situation closely. Stay tuned for further updates on NIGPOST.
