Fire Guts Deeper Life Church in Nsukka, Destroying Property

A devastating fire broke out at the Deeper Life Church in Nsukka on December 28, 2024, destroying the church building and several surrounding properties. The blaze, which started around 1 pm, quickly spread to nearby shops, causing widespread panic and confusion among residents. The cause of the fire remains unclear, but it has left significant damage in its wake.

Witnesses reported that shops in the vicinity of the church, including a motorcycle mechanic’s shop, were completely engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the intervention of Wilson Fire Service, a private firefighting team, helped contain the fire. Local police were also present to assist in efforts to prevent the fire from spreading further.

At the scene, shop owners could be seen in distress, trying to salvage what they could from the ruins of their businesses. Many of the victims, who wished to remain anonymous, mentioned that they couldn’t determine the exact cause of the fire, but speculated that it might have been triggered by a power surge. Over 10 shops were affected, with losses running into millions of naira.

Although no lives were lost, the destruction of the church’s property was significant. Not a single item from the church was saved from the flames. Despite efforts to contact local authorities, including the Nsukka local government chairman and the Enugu State Fire Service, no official statement has been made regarding the cause of the fire.

At the time of reporting, the fire’s origin remains under investigation, and residents are left grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event.
