Father Denies Daughter’s Involvement in US-Based Nigerian Doctor’s Death

My Daughter Had No Role in Her Ex-Husband’s Death – Van-Lare

Nigerian businessman Francis Van-Lare has dismissed allegations that his daughter, Suzette Chibuogu, was responsible for the suicide of her ex-husband, Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a US-based Nigerian cardiologist.

Dr. Erinne, a 36-year-old medical professional from Anambra State, reportedly took his own life on Sunday, January 26. However, conflicting reports have surfaced regarding the events leading up to the incident.

Allegations of Hostage Situation Before Suicide

Van-Lare revealed that Erinne had visited his daughter’s home on the day of the tragedy, where he allegedly held her, their children, and the nanny at gunpoint for three hours.

According to him, the situation took a dramatic turn when the nanny managed to escape and alert law enforcement authorities.

> “While there was an ongoing custody battle, I only became aware in the early hours of Monday that the deceased held my daughter and grandchildren at gunpoint for three hours after losing in court. The nanny escaped and called the police,” Van-Lare stated.

He further claimed that when police officers arrived, Dr. Erinne, rather than face three counts of kidnapping with a deadly weapon, which carried a potential sentence of 25 years to life on each charge, chose to end his own life.

No Winners in This Tragedy – Van-Lare

Van-Lare, in a Facebook post, expressed sympathy for Erinne’s family but maintained that his daughter was not responsible for his death.

> “While I sympathize with his family for his death, my daughter is not responsible for his actions. I thank God it did not escalate to the point where he harmed my daughter, grandchildren, or himself.”

Describing the situation as traumatizing for all involved, he added:

> “May his soul rest in peace. There are no winners here—everyone is a loser, and it’s a tragic event for all of us.”
