The family of the late Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, has raised serious concerns about exploitation during the funeral rites. In a heartfelt statement, Adebayo Adedeji, a family representative, revealed how the Owa-in-Council chiefs reportedly demanded exorbitant fees for the burial ceremonies. The family described these actions as a betrayal of the late monarch’s legacy of integrity, unity, and respect for the community.
The chiefs allegedly imposed unnecessary charges, threatening to disrupt the funeral rites if the payments were not made. This added unnecessary strain during an already emotional and challenging time for the family. Even after complying with these demands, the family faced internal conflicts among the chiefs, further complicating the mourning process. Some even attempted to undermine the events meant to honor the life and legacy of Oba Aromolaran.
Despite these challenges, the Bepo-Aromolaran family remains steadfast and united. They reject the accusations and manipulation, stressing that such actions go against the values of community and togetherness that the late monarch cherished throughout his life.
