In a shocking incident, the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, has arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly exhuming a human skull from a tomb in Kere, Obada-Oko, Abeokuta.
The arrest, which took place at around 2:35 a.m. on January 21, 2025, was made during a routine patrol by So-Safe officers.
According to the Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, officers noticed suspicious activity on a piece of land behind a church and decided to investigate further.
The suspect, identified as Adelani Oriyomi, was caught red-handed digging up a grave in an attempt to retrieve a human skull.
Although he initially tried to hide when he saw the patrol team, the officers returned and apprehended him before he could flee the scene.
During interrogation, Oriyomi confessed that he had exhumed another skull just days earlier from a tomb near his residence.
He revealed that he was collecting skulls to perform a money ritual locally known as Osole.
What’s even more disturbing is that Oriyomi admitted to being a repeat offender.
He disclosed that he had sold nearly ten skulls in the past and had previously served prison sentences for similar offenses, including two years in Ado-Odo and nearly seven years at the Oba Correctional Center.
The suspect and the recovered skull have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at the Obada Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commander Ganzallo took the opportunity to urge community leaders to be vigilant and carefully screen tenants and visitors in their neighborhoods.
“Being proactive can prevent incidents like this. Community vigilance can ensure 70% of security, with the remaining 30% relying on alertness to external threats,” he stated.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community awareness in maintaining safety and order.
