Lagos Court Hears Plea for Leniency as Evans Pursues Education Behind Bars
Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, has reportedly turned a new leaf, with his lawyer pleading for mercy from the Lagos State Government.
Evans’ Lawyer Appeals for Leniency
During a court session at the Lagos High Court in Ikeja, Evans’ lawyer, Chief Emefo Etudo, emphasized that his client has completely reformed and now seeks a second chance.
He disclosed that Evans, once Nigeria’s most notorious kidnapper, has embraced education and personal growth while in prison.
Etudo revealed that his client is currently a 200-level student at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and had excelled in his NECO exams, earning straight A1s while incarcerated.
He added that the Federal Government granted Evans a scholarship, which played a key role in his transformation.
“My client was once consumed by crime, but today, he is a changed man. He regrets his past and wants to contribute positively to society.
We have submitted a plea bargain to the Lagos State Government, requesting an opportunity for him to educate young people about the dangers of crime,” Etudo stated.
Plea Bargain Under Consideration
State Prosecutor Y.A. Sule confirmed that the Lagos State Government had received Evans’ plea bargain request and assured the court that it would be reviewed. Meanwhile, Justice Adenike Coker adjourned the case to March 20, 2025, for further proceedings.
Religious Reformation and Rehabilitation
Following the court session, Chief Etudo reiterated that Evans’ transformation was made possible through the intervention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the Federal Government.
He stated, “Evans has found faith, and his reformation is genuine. He is willing to use his experience to help deter Nigerian youths from engaging in crime.”
What’s Next for Evans?
While the state considers his plea, Evans remains in prison, hopeful that his efforts toward reformation will earn him a chance to contribute positively to society.
