Enugu Security Trust Fund Raises ₦3 Billion to Boost Safety Measures

The Enugu State Security Trust Fund (ESSTF) has received a major boost, with individuals and corporate organizations donating over ₦3 billion to strengthen security measures across the state.

The funds were raised during a high-profile fundraising dinner at the Old Government Lodge, Enugu, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property.

Security: A Collective Responsibility

Dr. Ike Chioke, Chairman of the ESSTF Board of Trustees and Group Managing Director of Afrinvest West Africa Ltd., commended Governor Peter Mbah’s administration for its dedication to security.

He emphasized that maintaining peace requires collaborative efforts from citizens, businesses, and government bodies.

“Our target is ₦20 billion. With over 5 million residents, if just 2 million working adults contribute ₦1,000 monthly, we can generate ₦24 billion a year. That alone proves our capacity,” Chioke stated.

Governor Mbah’s Vision for a Safer Enugu

Reflecting on the security crisis his administration inherited, Governor Peter Mbah recalled how criminals once operated with impunity, even sharing images of attacks on security personnel.

“But look at the difference today. In just 20 months, we have reclaimed our streets. Criminals who once terrorized our people have either been neutralized or forced to flee,” Mbah declared.

The governor highlighted several key investments in security, including:

The Enugu State Command and Control Centre, which operates with cutting-edge surveillance technology.

A Distress Response Squad for rapid intervention in security emergencies.

Deployment of 150 AI-enhanced security vehicles to ensure real-time monitoring across the state.

Despite these achievements, Mbah stressed that the fight against insecurity requires consistent funding and public cooperation.

Stakeholders Applaud Governor Mbah

Business mogul and philanthropist Prince Arthur Ezeh praised Mbah’s leadership, likening him to legendary Igbo leaders such as M.I. Okpara and Sam Mbakwe.

“In under a year, Governor Mbah has transformed Enugu State. He has the vision and competence to take Igboland to greater heights,” Ezeh remarked.

With the Enugu State government committed to long-term security strategies, the success of the Security Trust Fund sets a precedent for sustained safety and economic growth.
