El-Rufai Accuses NSA Ribadu of Lying About Tinubu’s Corruption Allegations

El-Rufai: “Ribadu Is Suffering from Memory Loss”

Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, of lying about never accusing President Bola Tinubu of corruption during his tenure as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman.

The controversy began after ex-Police Service Commission (PSC) commissioner, Hajia Naja’atu Muhammad, alleged in a viral TikTok video that Ribadu had previously described Tinubu, George Akume, Orji Uzor Kalu, and other former governors as highly corrupt officials.

Ribadu’s Legal Response

Denying the claims, Ribadu, through his lawyer Dr. Ahmed Raji, SAN, demanded a public apology and retraction from Hajia Muhammad. The legal notice stated that the allegations had caused severe reputational damage to the NSA.

“Privately or publicly, our client has never expressed the above viewpoint about President Tinubu or Senators Akume and Kalu,” the letter read.

Ribadu’s lawyer challenged Muhammad to provide evidence of the alleged statements and refuted claims that the NSA had changed his stance for political convenience.

El-Rufai Fires Back: “Ribadu Is Lying”

El-Rufai, who served as FCT Minister in 2006, insisted that Ribadu did make such statements, citing official records from:

Senate proceedings in 2006

Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings

Archived media reports, including Daily Trust (February 2007)

“The record of proceedings in the Senate will confirm that Nuhu made those statements in 2006,” El-Rufai said.

He added that documents from the SGF’s cabinet secretariat could be subpoenaed to verify the allegations.

“At some point in our national life, silence is no longer golden.”

Efforts to get Ribadu’s response were unsuccessful as neither he nor his spokesperson could be reached.
