Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has revealed exciting news: starting January 2025, private jets will be able to land at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport. This comes after the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) granted approval for non-scheduled flights at the airport, which will begin from December 13, 2024, through to June 15, 2025.
Governor Oyebanji shared this milestone during a visit to Afe Babalola University, where he took a moment to thank Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) for his generous financial support in bringing the airport to life. He noted that the approval is a significant step in Ekiti’s ambition to become a hub for international aviation.
While chartered flights will begin in January, full commercial flight operations are still a work in progress. The airport still needs more infrastructure, like an Instrument Landing System, before it can officially handle commercial flights. However, Governor Oyebanji expressed confidence that with continued support, the airport will reach this goal.
Chief Babalola also expressed his excitement about the airport’s potential to drive Ekiti’s economic growth. He believes it will create job opportunities, boost local businesses, and enhance the state’s transportation infrastructure. He reassured his commitment to supporting the project, recognizing its importance for Ekiti’s future.
