In a bid to uphold its commitment to fighting corruption, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed 27 officers for fraud and misconduct.
The decision was disclosed by the EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, in Abuja, who explained that the dismissals came after a thorough investigation and recommendations from the staff disciplinary committee.
EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, ratified the dismissals and reaffirmed the commission’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, emphasizing that no officer, regardless of position, is exempt from disciplinary action.
Oyewale also addressed an ongoing investigation into a $400,000 claim made by an anonymous individual against a sectional head within the EFCC. He assured the public that any allegation would be thoroughly investigated to maintain the integrity of the commission.
“The core values of the commission are sacrosanct, and we hold them in the highest regard,” Olukoyede stated.
In addition, the EFCC warned the public about a group of fraudsters impersonating the Executive Chairman.
These individuals were allegedly involved in extorting money from high-profile suspects by claiming to offer them leniency in exchange for large sums.
Recently, two men, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, were arraigned for allegedly demanding $1 million from former Nigerian Ports Authority MD, Mr. Mohammed Bello-Kaka, in exchange for a “soft landing.”
The EFCC urged the public to remain vigilant as these impersonators continue to target potential victims.
