Popular Nigerian artist, Eedris Abdulkareem, has fired back after the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) banned his controversial new song, “Tell Your Papa”, from being aired on radio and TV stations across the country.
The NBC issued a memo to broadcasters, declaring the song “Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB)” due to its content, which the commission claims violates broadcasting standards.
Despite the song gaining popularity on social media platforms, the regulatory body argued that it failed to meet acceptable standards for broadcast.
In a statement on his Instagram page, Abdulkareem condemned the ban, accusing the administration of President Bola Tinubu of being “insensitive, vindictive, and maleficent.”
He claimed that the current government views “constructive criticism as a crime” and that the president’s leadership has been disastrous for the country.
The musician reflected on his previous experience with censorship, recalling how his song “Jaga Jaga” was banned during the Obasanjo administration over 20 years ago.
Abdulkareem’s statement noted that despite these setbacks, the truth remains powerful, and he expressed confidence that his voice and the message of his music would continue to resonate.
In his words, “The Conscience is an open wound, only the Truth can heal it.” He concluded with a call for the continuation of activism, saying “Aluta Continua!”—a slogan often used in Nigerian political movements.
