Ebonyi State is set to strengthen its development efforts through a new partnership with the Norwegian government. Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru announced this collaboration, which will focus on improving healthcare, education, energy, water supply, and infrastructure in the state.
Speaking during a courtesy visit from the Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Svein Baera, Governor Nwifuru emphasized the importance of this partnership in enhancing human capital development and improving the well-being of Ebonyi residents, particularly women and children.
Key Areas of Collaboration
The governor called on the Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team (AMURT) to upgrade its primary healthcare facilities in the state, ensuring better maternal and child healthcare services.
“We recognize Norway’s contributions to Nigeria, especially through NORCAP, which has provided quality education. Our people have greatly benefited from these efforts.
We are committed to working together to equip hospitals, provide solar energy, and improve access to clean water in rural areas,” Nwifuru stated.
Norwegian Ambassador Applauds Ebonyi’s Efforts
In response, Ambassador Baera commended Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to healthcare and education.
“I have seen firsthand the progress made in these sectors. It’s important to travel beyond Abuja and Lagos to truly understand Nigeria’s development needs,” he said.
He also announced plans to inspect the Norwegian College of Agricultural Project, which was established over 62 years ago, reaffirming Norway’s long-standing support for Nigeria’s growth.
This partnership marks a significant step toward sustainable development in Ebonyi, promising a brighter future for its citizens.
