As Nigerians prepare for the Easter holiday, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is taking strong steps to ensure road safety by deploying more than 200 mobile courts across the country. This major move is part of the agency’s special patrol operations designed to promote a safe and hitch-free celebration from Thursday through April 23.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement released by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, in Abuja. According to him, the mobile courts will handle the prosecution of various traffic offenders in real time during the Easter rush.
To support this nationwide initiative, the FRSC has established a Situation Room at its National Headquarters. The center will monitor field activities, gather real-time reports, and relay critical information to relevant commands and stakeholders.
Mohammed highlighted the key offences the agency will be cracking down on, which include excessive speeding, reckless overtaking, lane violations, use of mobile phones while driving, overloading, and failure to use seatbelts or child restraints. Others include driving without a passenger manifest, using faulty or rickety vehicles, and non-compliance with latching and twist-lock standards.
The Corps Marshal also directed commanding officers to collaborate closely with security and emergency stakeholders such as the military, police, DSS, Nigeria Immigration Service, NSCDC, NEMA, state traffic agencies, ambulance providers, and fire services. The cooperation aims to provide the necessary morale, logistics, and operational support during this critical period.
In a show of confidence, Mohammed expressed hope that Nigerians will continue to support the FRSC’s efforts by complying with road safety laws. He further mentioned that volunteers will be on hand to assist in managing traffic flow.
This proactive measure by the FRSC reflects a deep commitment to reducing road crashes and saving lives, ensuring that Easter remains a time of peace and celebration for all Nigerians.
