
Ilorin, Kwara State, was aglow with tradition and prestige on Friday as Professor Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN) was officially turbaned as the first Kuliya Ngeri of the Ilorin Emirate.
The historic ceremony took place at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and attracted high-profile guests from across Nigeria.
Vice President Kashim Shettima led a delegation of prominent figures, including the governors of Borno and Kwara States—Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum and Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (represented by the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu).
Also present was the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), among other political, legal, and traditional dignitaries.
The Emir of Ilorin praised Professor Ali as a steadfast ally of the emirate, noting his long-standing dedication and service.
“For nearly 20 years, you have given your resources, energy, and time to the progress of the Ilorin Emirate. This title is a recognition of your loyalty and hard work,” the Emir said.
He also lauded Ali’s contributions to legal advocacy and community development, naming him the emirate’s number one legal adviser going forward.
In his acceptance remarks, an emotional Professor Ali expressed deep gratitude to the Emir and attendees, pledging continued support to the Ilorin Emirate.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by this recognition. I remain committed to the growth and prosperity of our community,” he said.
The event saw an impressive turnout of legal luminaries, politicians, academics, and community leaders.
Among them were the Ciroma of Ilorin, Alhaji Abubakar Bature Sulu-Gambari; Minister of Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola; ex-Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau; and Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq, the Mutawali of Ilorin.
