A political storm brews within the PDP as a party-aligned group blames the internal crisis on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s relentless presidential ambition.
Atiku Accused of Fueling PDP Crisis
The Good Governance Group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized Atiku Abubakar.
According to them, his repeated bids to become Nigeria’s president have created tension and division within the party.
They claimed Atiku’s obsession with power has hindered unity. Instead of building alliances, they argue he focuses solely on personal ambition.
Mohammed Atiku Draws Fire
The group also rebuked Atiku’s son, Mohammed Atiku. He had criticized Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for not supporting his father during the 2019 and 2023 elections.
However, the group defended Governor Bala. They insisted he had always remained loyal to the PDP and never sought personal favors in return.
Poor Party Leadership and Sycophancy
In a statement released in Abuja, Hon. Chidubem Ikenna, the group’s director of media, said Atiku had surrounded himself with sycophants.
He argued that instead of working with committed allies, Atiku relied on individuals who fed his ego.
They added that his refusal to build party-wide consensus has weakened the PDP’s structure ahead of future elections.
Bala Mohammed Not to Blame
The group dismissed any attempt to blame Bala Mohammed for the party’s ongoing crisis. They called such accusations unfair and misleading.
They also warned Mohammed Atiku to stop blaming governors for his father’s political losses. According to the statement, Nigerians rejected Atiku because he failed to evolve, inspire, or offer a unifying vision.
“PDP Is Not a Family Business”
The group emphasized that the PDP is not a platform for personal gain. They accused Atiku’s camp of acting as if the party were a family enterprise or legacy project.
They said, “If Atiku had built real bridges instead of tearing down rivals, he might have had better support.” Governor Bala, they noted, had stood by Atiku in 2019 without expecting favors—just respect and fairness.
Rhetorical Questions on Party Betrayals
The statement posed several sharp questions:
- Who broke the zoning arrangement?
- Who negotiated with political opponents behind closed doors?
- Who turned the presidential campaign into a family affair?
- Who believed they were the Villa’s chosen candidate without merit?
- Who caused internal rifts leading to defections by five governors?
A Call for Constructive Politics
The group advised Mohammed Atiku to present facts, not attacks. They said his public comments only highlight the reasons behind his father’s repeated electoral defeats.
They concluded that no individual is above the party and that PDP must prioritize unity over personal ambition.
