Delta State Police Arrest Suspect Over Murder of 10-Year-Old Girl

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Precious, for his alleged involvement in the brutal killing of a 10-year-old girl in the Orhoakpo Ethiope East area of Delta State.

According to a video shared on social media by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the tragic incident occurred on January 9, 2025.

Precious reportedly confessed to kidnapping the young girl and handing her over to two unidentified men, who killed her using a machete after promising him a payment of ₦200,000.

Discovery and Arrest
The arrest was initiated after Precious’ girlfriend, who is the sister of the deceased, raised an alarm about her sibling’s disappearance.

The girlfriend later disclosed that Precious had previously approached her, asking for one of her siblings, who are triplets, for an unspecified purpose. Although she initially refused, her failure to report the suspicious request led to a tragic outcome.

Explaining the events leading to the arrest, Edafe said:
“The lady has 10-year-old triplets as siblings. Precious approached her, requesting one of them, but she declined and did not alert her parents, the police, or the community.

Later that day, one of the triplets went missing. When the search began, the girlfriend remembered Precious’ request and informed her parents, who reported it to the authorities.”

Suspect’s Confession
In a video confession, Precious admitted to kidnapping the child and taking her to two men who carried out the heinous act in his presence. He also alleged that his girlfriend eventually consented to his request for her sibling.

“I told her I needed her younger sister, but she initially refused. Later, I convinced her, and she allowed me to take the child. I handed her over to the two men, who killed and buried her in the community,” Precious confessed.

Ongoing Investigation
Bright Edafe revealed that the police are still working to locate the burial site of the victim and identify the two men involved. He condemned the silence of individuals who fail to report suspicious behavior, emphasizing its devastating consequences.

“This tragedy highlights the importance of vigilance and community awareness. Such acts should never go unreported. The Delta State Police Command is committed to ensuring that justice is served in this case,” Edafe stated.

Related Incidents
This arrest comes days after another horrific case in Delta State, where a 23-year-old man, identified as Success, was arrested for allegedly killing his father with a cutlass in Sapele Local Government Area.

Call for Community Action
The Delta State Police Command has urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities promptly. Authorities believe community collaboration is essential in preventing similar tragedies.
