In a major crackdown on criminal activities, the Delta State Police Command has killed five suspected kidnappers and arrested three others following a fierce gun battle in the Iyamugo forest.
How It Happened
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, operatives from the CP Special Assignment Team (CP SAT) launched the operation on March 21, acting on intelligence that led to the arrest of Adamu Abubakar, alias “Dogo,” a notorious kidnapping ring leader.
Further interrogations led to the capture of two more suspects, Abubakar Mohammed (“Chede”) and Mohammed Bellow, in Ughelli North LGA. Investigations revealed that the syndicate had been terrorizing Warri, Ughelli, Otu-Jeremi, and surrounding areas with a series of kidnappings and armed robberies.
Recovered Weapons and Gun Battle
Following the suspects’ confessions, security operatives raided their hideout in Iyamugo forest, where they recovered:
- One AK-47 rifle
- One pump-action gun
- Three locally-made guns
- Two magazines
- 60 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition
- 17 rounds of live cartridges
As the officers exited the forest, they were ambushed by suspected gang members, leading to a deadly exchange of gunfire. Five kidnappers were shot and later died in the hospital, while others managed to escape.
What’s Next?
The arrested suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing criminals.
This operation highlights the Delta State Police Command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and making the region safer for residents.
