Davido: A Gospel Artist, Says Pastor Tobi Adegboyega

Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, the founder of the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church (SPAC Nation), has stirred conversation by calling popular musician Davido, whose full name is David Adeleke, a gospel artist. In a recent episode of the “Off The Record” podcast, which gained widespread attention, Pastor Adegboyega clarified his statement, explaining that the term “gospel” essentially means “good news,” a concept he believes Davido embodies through his music.

This remark came in response to criticism over the pastor’s decision to invite secular musicians, including Davido, to perform at his birthday celebration, instead of gospel artists. Adegboyega, known for his bold and outspoken nature, also discussed his close relationship with Nigerian artist Zlatan, referring to him as a “son” and expressing admiration for his support.

Defending his choices, Adegboyega emphasized that the performers at his event were his personal friends, who had been by his side during both good and difficult times. He shared that Davido, for instance, offered to perform at the event for free because of their strong friendship.

The pastor also criticized gospel artists who were quick to judge his decision without building meaningful relationships. He questioned their actions, saying, “If gospel artists aren’t my friends and are criticizing me, what should I do? Drag them with a rope?”

In his typical unapologetic style, Pastor Adegboyega made it clear that his events would always feature his friends, as they hold a central place in his life. “My friends will always sing at my events, and the next one will be bigger because my circle of friends keeps growing,” he stated confidently.
