Nigeria Customs Service Promotes 1,419 Junior Officers in Major Career Advancement

The management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has approved the promotion of 1,419 junior officers across various ranks. This decision aims to enhance the service’s efficiency, particularly in providing effective service to the Nigerian public and facilitating smooth trade operations. The promotions were confirmed at the 10th Management Meeting, chaired by the Comptroller General of Customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, which took place late last month.

The newly promoted officers span across General Duty and Support Staff, all of whom excelled in the 2024 promotion exercise. Specifically, 346 General Duty officers and 384 Support Staff were promoted from Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC) to Inspector of Customs (IC). Additionally, 4 General Duty officers and 13 Support Staff advanced from Customs Assistant I (CAI) to Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC). In another category, 372 General Duty officers and 59 Support Staff moved from Customs Assistant II (CAII) to Customs Assistant I (CAI), while 188 General Duty officers and 54 Support Staff were promoted from Customs Assistant III (CAIII) to Customs Assistant II (CAII).

This wave of promotions highlights the strategic leadership and vision of the NCS under Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi. His administration continues to prioritize career growth and employee motivation as core elements in building a more productive workforce. By fostering a culture of excellence, CGC Adeniyi ensures that NCS officers are empowered to reach their full potential, ultimately leading to improved service delivery in revenue generation, combating smuggling, and enhancing trade facilitation.

In a statement of encouragement, the Comptroller General congratulated the promoted officers and urged them to intensify their efforts in contributing to the NCS’s core responsibilities. He reminded them of the vital role they play in driving the agency’s mission forward, particularly in revenue collection, smuggling suppression, and supporting trade growth.

Additionally, the promotion process for senior officers is currently underway and is awaiting final approval from the Nigeria Customs Service Board.
