Customs apprehends 34 illegal migrants and confiscates smuggled items.

Customs Arrests 34 Illegal Migrants, Seizes Smuggled Goods

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Joint Border Patrol Team has arrested 34 illegal immigrants and confiscated a range of smuggled goods.

The seized items include 816 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 802 jerry cans of petrol (Premium Motor Spirit), 285 bales of second-hand clothes, and other illegal products.

According to Deputy Comptroller Mohamed Shuaibu, the success of this operation is due to increased patrols, constant monitoring, and better intelligence along border areas.

He emphasized that these efforts are part of Nigeria’s commitment to fighting smuggling, protecting the economy, and ensuring national security.

Shuaibu also highlighted that the total value of the goods seized last month reached N556.43 million, and an additional N8.02 million was made from auction sales of smuggled petrol, which was too dangerous to store.

He reinforced that smuggling not only harms the economy but also fuels insecurity and exploits vulnerable people.
