A coalition of support groups in Zamfara State has commended Governor Dauda Lawal for the swift implementation of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage for civil servants—the first time since the state’s creation in 1996.

The state coordinator of the Coalition of Rescue Support Groups, Alhaji Rufai Ahmed Gusau, made this known in Abuja, describing the move as a demonstration of Governor Lawal’s commitment to workers’ welfare. He noted that the wage increase would enhance financial stability, improve service delivery, and boost the living standards of government employees—marking a break from previous administrations’ salary struggles.

Crackdown on Payroll Fraud

In addition to the wage increase, the governor has taken a decisive step to cleanse the state’s payroll system. According to Gusau, 28,273 workers have been verified and cleared, while 2,363 ghost workers—previously collecting a total of ₦193.6 million monthly—have been removed from the system. This reform has saved Zamfara an estimated ₦200 million per month, which will now be redirected toward the state’s development.

The coalition praised Governor Lawal’s leadership, stating that his “Rescue Mission” agenda reflects his dedication to good governance, security, and economic growth.
