The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has stepped in to offer support to victims of the recent violent attacks in Plateau State, providing essential relief items and a message of hope and solidarity.
Led by its Vice President, Rev. Stephen Panya, the CAN delegation visited affected communities in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas on Thursday. During the visit, they delivered building materials, food supplies, and toiletries to the survivors, while also conveying heartfelt condolences.
Rev. Panya emphasized that CAN stands firmly with the victims and the entire people of Plateau State, stating, “We are here on behalf of our President and national leadership to comfort the people and assure them they are not alone in this tragedy.”
Describing the attacks as “the height of inhumanity,” Rev. Panya denounced the narrative that such violence could be brushed off as communal conflict. “These are not communal misunderstandings,” he stressed. “These are deliberate and vicious acts of genocide targeting Christian communities.”
He called on both the Nigerian government and security forces to act decisively. “Our citizens are being butchered without consequences. Criminals move freely, while innocent people suffer. Until the government takes bold and intentional steps, this crisis will persist,” he warned.
CAN also praised President Bola Tinubu and the Plateau State Governor for their efforts so far but urged them to intensify actions to ensure lasting peace and security.
Rev. Panya concluded with a scripture from Ecclesiastes 8:13, cautioning evildoers and calling for repentance, while reaffirming faith in divine justice: “It shall not be well with the wicked… because he feareth not before God.”
