In a series of violent incidents, Boko Haram terrorists have intensified their attacks in the Southern Borno Senatorial District.
Following deadly assaults in Damboa and Chibok, where dozens lost their lives and several churches and homes were destroyed in Bamzir, Njilang, Shikarkir, and neighboring communities, a fresh attack has been reported in Yimirmugza village, Chibok.
Details of the Attack
Initial investigations reveal that most of the 40 victims killed in Dumba, a riverine community in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area, were dry-season farmers from Gwoza Local Government Area. Southern Borno has recently seen a surge in deadly raids and looting of agricultural produce by the insurgents.
A source described the dire situation in Chibok:
> “We are severely traumatized as Boko Haram terrorists have re-emerged, wreaking havoc on our communities in Chibok.
By God’s grace, my family and I escaped into the bush during the invasion of Yimirmugza village this evening. However, many others, especially the elderly, remain trapped amid the gunfire.”
The source added that the extent of the devastation is unknown, as many villagers remain unaccounted for.
Security Response
Efforts to reach ASP Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer, for an official statement were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
