Controversial Nigerian crossdresser Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, has called on Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy to forgive entertainer Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington, and help secure his release from prison.
Bobrisky’s appeal came through a series of heartfelt posts shared on his Instagram story on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
Bobrisky expressed deep concern for Speed Darlington’s well-being while in prison, urging Burna Boy to pardon him, emphasizing that a 45-day sentence should be sufficient punishment.
In his message, Bobrisky noted, “I just want to mind my business this year and stay away from anything involving Nigerian celebrities, but my soft heart won’t stop me from thinking about many things.”
Bobrisky continued, pleading with Burna Boy, “Please, Burna Boy, forgive Speed. Prison is not a nice place. I don’t think he has the money for the VIP section because it’s expensive.
None of these people I’m using my platform to stand for did the same for me when it was my time. But you know what? Our hearts are different.
I can’t stand seeing human beings hurt. I pray, Burna, please release him. Forty-five days in prison is enough punishment.”
In addition to his appeal, Bobrisky called out fans who enabled Speed Darlington’s controversial behavior, urging them to hold their favorite celebrities accountable.
“Fans, learn how to tell your favorites the truth when they are crossing the line. You all were applauding Speed when he was saying unpleasant things. Now, none of you is in prison with him,” Bobrisky remarked.
Speed Darlington was arrested in October 2024 after allegations of defamation and cyberstalking against Burna Boy.
Initially detained in Lagos, Speed was transferred to Abuja, where he spent time in custody under the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in the Guzape area.
After his release, he was re-arrested in November 2024 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, shortly after returning from abroad.
This incident has ignited widespread debate on social media, with both support and criticism emerging for the personalities involved.
