Benue Tragedy: Businessman Killed by Armed Herdsmen Despite Paying ₦5.5m Ransom

Tragedy struck in Akor village, Nzorov Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State, as a well-known farmer and businessman, Mr. Terzungwe Shaku, was killed by suspected armed herdsmen after being abducted and despite his family paying a ransom of ₦5.5 million for his release.

The shocking incident has led to panic in the community, with many residents fleeing their homes out of fear of further attacks.

A family source, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that Mr. Shaku had narrowly escaped an attack by the same marauders early last year.

Unfortunately, just days before the New Year, the assailants targeted him again, abducting him from his business premises.

The kidnappers initially demanded ₦10 million for his release, but the family managed to negotiate and pay ₦5.5 million.

“It is true, Akor is my village. Terzungwe was a prominent farmer and also ran a provision store. Early last year, he survived an attack by armed herdsmen. Sadly, this time, they abducted him and demanded a ransom.

“After the family delivered the ₦5.5 million at the agreed drop-off point, they heard gunshots shortly after leaving the area.

When they returned, they found his lifeless body. The herdsmen took the money and killed him. The family is in deep shock and disbelief.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Catherine Anene, stated that she had not yet received details about the incident.
