Real Madrid’s star midfielder Jude Bellingham has revealed that everyone in the team strongly believes they can pull off a sensational comeback against Arsenal in their Champions League quarter-final showdown on Wednesday.
Following a heavy 3-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg, the odds are heavily stacked against the Spanish giants. But Bellingham insists that belief, history, and the magic of the Santiago Bernabeu could turn things around for the reigning European champions.
“It was one of the worst results we could have imagined,” Bellingham admitted during a press conference on Tuesday. “But somehow, everyone around here believes we’ll come back. That kind of faith means so much — it shows just how unique this club is.”
The English midfielder, who joined Madrid in 2023 and already played a key role in their European journey, said the word remontada (comeback) has become the buzzword around the club.
“I’ve seen a million videos, I’ve heard it a million times… it’s incredibly motivating. This is exactly the kind of night Real Madrid lives for. We want to give our fans a night to remember,” Bellingham said.
He emphasized the importance of the home fans’ energy, saying, “They create something special at the Bernabeu — that passion, that noise — it lifts us. We need to turn that energy into performance.”
Coach Carlo Ancelotti, who holds the record for the most Champions League titles as a manager with five, is equally optimistic. Calm and composed ahead of the second leg, Ancelotti said, “These games are what I live for. I’m not worried — I’m excited. We need to play with head, heart, and courage.”
The coach made it clear that French superstar Kylian Mbappe, despite a recent red card in La Liga, is vital to Madrid’s hopes. “He’s disappointed, yes, but he’s trained well and he’s hungry. We need him now more than ever — he has to score,” Ancelotti added.
