In a recent gathering held on January 4, 2025, political leaders from Bayelsa West, including the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, and the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, have emphasized the importance of political unity and human development for the region’s sustained growth.
The event took place at Ofoni in Sagbama Local Government Area, where Senator Dickson, accompanied by leaders from the Bayelsa West Senatorial District, paid a New Year visit to Senator Ewhrudjakpo. The leaders expressed their commitment to working together for the betterment of Bayelsa State.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo stressed the critical need for all sectors, including government, private enterprises, and development partners, to invest in human capital development. He pointed out that society’s progress is deeply tied to the nurturing of human resources. He also clarified that while education is important, it must be paired with competence and innovation to truly drive societal growth.
He remarked, “Human beings are the most important resource in the world. All governments and development partners must focus on harnessing human potential to foster development.” Ewhrudjakpo’s speech highlighted his appreciation for the unwavering support of Bayelsa West residents, urging continued political unity as a foundation for future development.
Senator Dickson echoed Ewhrudjakpo’s call for unity, stating that the ongoing political cohesion in Bayelsa West is vital for the region’s progress. He commended the leadership of both the state governor, Senator Douye Diri, and Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo, asserting that their partnership was key to Bayelsa’s current success. He urged all constituents to support their leaders and avoid divisive politics that could hinder development.
Hon. Fyneman Wilson, another key figure in the district, attributed the region’s improved unity to Ewhrudjakpo’s open and people-centered leadership style. He pledged that the entire senatorial district would continue to back Ewhrudjakpo and maintain the region’s political cohesion.
The visit was also marked by traditional songs and warm hospitality, with local leaders such as Dr. O.O. Osusu of the Ofoni Federated Community expressing gratitude for the political leadership and pledging continued support for Senator Dickson and other leaders in the district.
