In a successful operation, the Bayelsa State Police Command has rescued two kidnapped workers of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The victims, Akari Loveday, Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to the NDDC Managing Director, and his brother, Emmanuel Nathan Ogbuku, were abducted last Friday near Ayakoro community in Ogbia Local Government Area.
Swift Police Response and High-Tech Rescue
Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, revealed that the rescue mission was executed using community intelligence and advanced drone technology.
The tactical team, led by CSP Chris Nwaogbo under Operation Puff Adder, recovered the speedboats used by the kidnappers and launched a rigorous three-day search in the dense forests of the local government area.
A senior police source disclosed that pressure from the tactical team, supported by a private security firm, Ability Security Services, and the Nigerian Navy-NNS Soroh, forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims.
Gunfire Exchange and Victims’ Release
The intense chase between the police and the kidnappers led to a confrontation in the Ayakoro creeks.
Local vigilante groups and community youths, under the guidance of the paramount ruler of Ewoi, provided crucial intelligence that assisted in locating the victims.
Following an exchange of gunfire, the kidnappers were overwhelmed, and the abductees were eventually left at the Ayama burial ground, where they were safely recovered by security forces.
Commissioner Commends Officers and Community Support
Commissioner Idu credited the successful rescue operation to a strong collaboration between the police and local communities.
He applauded CSP Chris Nwaogbo and his team for their bravery, emphasizing that drone surveillance played a crucial role in tracking the kidnappers.
In a ‘Thank You’ visit, Barr. Rex-Ogbuku Jude, a relative of NDDC Managing Director Samuel Ogbuku, expressed gratitude to the police for their prompt response.
He highlighted that the entire community celebrated the rescue, praising the officers for their dedication.
The Bayelsa Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to combating crime and ensuring safety across the state.
