The Bauchi State House of Assembly has called on the state government to urgently provide relief materials to victims of a recent windstorm that hit several communities in Alkaleri Local Government Area, including Mansur, Yalo, Futuk, and Digare.
Speaker of the House, Abubakar Sulaiman, made the appeal during a plenary session following a motion raised under matters of public importance by Hon. Bala Abdullahi Dan, representing the Duguri/Gwana constituency.
Hon. Dan expressed deep concern over the destruction caused by the windstorm, revealing that two lives were lost while numerous homes and properties were destroyed across the affected villages. He emphasized the need for immediate intervention to support the displaced families.
He urged the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (BASEMA) to quickly provide medical aid, temporary shelters, and other essential relief materials to the affected residents.
In a separate interview, the lawmaker also warned residents to stop building on waterways and to avoid blocking natural water channels, especially as the rainy season approaches, to prevent further disasters.
