Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has admitted that no one expected the team to be in contention for three major trophies by March.
Taking over from Xavi Hernandez last summer after a trophyless season, the German tactician has revitalized the squad, putting them in a strong position across multiple competitions.
Currently, Barcelona leads La Liga on goal difference, sits in the Copa del Rey semi-finals against Atletico Madrid, and is set to face Benfica in the Champions League round of 16.
Despite the packed schedule, Flick remains optimistic about his team’s chances.
Flick: “No Excuses, Just Focus”
Speaking ahead of their La Liga clash against Real Sociedad, Flick emphasized his team’s mentality.
“The team is doing really great, they are focused—no excuses, just focus on the next match,” he said.
He also hinted at squad rotation to manage player fatigue before their Champions League trip to Lisbon.
“We need fresh legs, and tomorrow is a good day for that. We will have changes, but I won’t say which ones,” he added.
Injury Setback for Christensen
Barcelona suffered a blow as Danish defender Andreas Christensen picked up another injury during training.
The 28-year-old had only just recovered from a long-term Achilles issue and was expected to return against Real Sociedad.
“He was an option for tomorrow, but he got injured again. We are assessing the severity, and hopefully, it’s not too bad,” Flick revealed.
As the season heats up, Barcelona fans will be eager to see if Flick’s men can complete their unexpected treble push.
