Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has come down hard on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of lacking the competence and clear strategy to address Nigeria’s persistent insecurity challenges.
Atiku expressed deep concern over the recent killings in Benue State, where 55 lives were reportedly lost in the Logo and Gbagir communities of Ukum Local Government Area.
He criticized the Tinubu-led administration for its apparent indifference to the tragedy, claiming it has failed Nigerians once again.
Taking to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Atiku didn’t hold back in his assessment of the current government. “The Tinubu administration has proven, time and again, to be utterly incapable, wholly incompetent, and completely devoid of any coherent ideas for tackling Nigeria’s deepening security crisis,” he wrote.
He further stated that this opinion isn’t isolated, alleging that even some members within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) privately admit the government’s failure to provide solutions but are too afraid to speak up publicly.
“The blood of innocent Nigerians continues to be spilled with appalling regularity,” Atiku lamented. “Yet, the Tinubu presidency remains disturbingly indifferent, displaying neither urgency nor the basic decency of public empathy.”
Atiku also took a jab at President Tinubu’s travels, criticizing him for being in Europe amid the worsening insecurity.
“Yet President Bola Tinubu, incapable of solving Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, chooses instead to gallivant across Europe — governing Nigeria in absentia as if from a holiday perch,” he added.
President Tinubu is currently in France and is expected to return after the Easter holiday.
The tragic incident in Benue adds to the long list of security challenges Nigeria continues to face, prompting growing frustration from citizens and political figures alike.
