The Nigerian Army intensifies efforts to curb oil theft in the Niger Delta, recovering over 60,000 litres of stolen crude, dismantling 32 illegal refineries, and arresting 15 suspects.
The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, has ramped up its operations to tackle oil theft in the Niger Delta region. These recent efforts have led to the recovery of more than 60,000 litres of stolen crude oil products and the arrest of 15 suspects.
A statement from the Army revealed the destruction of 32 illegal refineries and the deactivation of 14 boats used for criminal activities between January 6 and 12, 2025.
In Rivers State, operations around the Bille area in Degema Local Government Area resulted in the confiscation of over 20,000 litres of stolen crude and the destruction of seven illegal refining sites.
Additionally, troops deactivated ten illegal refining sites along the Imo River stretch, recovering over 19,000 litres of stolen products.
The crackdown extended to other regions, including Asa, Okoloma, Ukwa, and Odagwa in Etche Local Government Area, where three boats carrying over 12,000 litres of stolen crude were intercepted.
Similarly, at Nkisa in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, an illegal refining site containing over 1,200 litres of illegally refined automotive gas oil was neutralized.
At Ndoni road, security forces intercepted a Toyota bus carrying 18 sacks of stolen condensates estimated at over 1,200 litres.
Troops also dismantled illegal refining sites in Buguma, Asari-Toru LGA, and apprehended five suspected oil thieves.
The arrested suspects have been handed over to the relevant authorities for prosecution, as the Nigerian Army reiterates its commitment to curbing economic sabotage in the country.
