Security operatives in Anambra State have arrested and detained Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki, over his alleged promotion of money rituals.
The well-known native doctor, famous for flaunting wealth on social media, has been silent since the launch of Agunechemba, the state’s new security outfit.
His online presence grew due to his controversial promotion of “Oke Ite”, a ritual he claimed could bring unlimited wealth. His claims attracted a massive following, especially among young people.
How the Arrest Happened
The Anambra State Government confirmed his arrest in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba denies Oke Ite and has been detained for further investigation by the security agency.”
Sources say security operatives picked him up at his base in Oba, Idemili South LGA, on Saturday evening and took him to the office of Deputy Governor Dr. Onyeka Ibezim for questioning.
Native Doctor Denies Involvement in Rituals
A viral video shows the deputy governor questioning Akwa Okuko about his alleged involvement in Oke Ite.
Defending himself, he stated:
“I have long stopped doing ‘Oke Ite’. That thing is not a charm. We just called it ‘Oke Ite’ because we put it in a pot. In Igbo, ‘Oke Ite’ simply means ‘big pot’.”
However, Deputy Governor Ibezim cited the new Anambra Homeland Security Law, demanding further investigation.
“Guys, you have heard him. We need to take him to where he does these things. If he cannot prove it, he will have to face the law,” he told the security operatives.
A Troubled Past
This is not the first time Akwa Okuko has been in the news. In July 2023, he was kidnapped and later released after reportedly spending days in captivity and paying a ransom.
