Anambra Police Nab Suspected Kidnapper Demanding ₦1.2 Million Ransom

In a recent breakthrough, the Anambra State Police have arrested a 32-year-old man, Chukwuma Obi, who is accused of kidnapping and extorting a victim for ₦1.2 million. Obi, hailing from Umuagu Village in Igboukwu, was apprehended by the Anti-Cultism Squad in the Enugu-Ukwu area of Njikoka Local Government.

According to the police, Obi sent a threatening message to his victim, warning of an imminent kidnapping unless the ransom was paid into a specific account. He also claimed to be a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as part of his intimidation tactic.

Following his arrest, Obi admitted to the crime and is now helping the authorities track down other members of his alleged gang. Anambra’s Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has reassured the public of the police’s commitment to ensuring justice and encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
