In a swift operation, the Osun State Amotekun Corps has re-arrested a notorious robbery suspect, John Uba, 26, who had previously escaped from police custody. The suspect was caught in the early hours of Thursday, April 17, 2024, following a robbery incident in the Fiwasaye area of Osogbo, the state capital.
According to the Commandant of the Corps, Adekunle Omoyele, the arrest was made after residents raised an alarm during the robbery, prompting a quick response from Amotekun operatives. Investigations later confirmed that Uba had earlier escaped from the custody of the Ota-Efun Police Division. He also admitted to being a repeat offender. He has now been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
In a related development, the Corps also apprehended Aderemi Sheriff, 28, for allegedly stealing electrical cables worth over N5 million at the Hammed Omidiran University area.
Sheriff, an ex-convict, confessed to the crime, claiming that he was driven to it after his marijuana trade collapsed. Authorities believe he was part of a gang that previously attacked a steel rolling company and engaged Amotekun officers in a gun battle.
Three other suspects—Idowu Tajudeen (27), Bamanga Joffrey (24), and Femi Adeniyi (22)—were also paraded. They were caught red-handed breaking into a residential building in the Government Reservation Area (G.R.A) of Osogbo. The trio allegedly attempted to cart away a pumping machine and other items before being apprehended.
The Corps confirmed that all suspects would be prosecuted accordingly.
