Airtel Increases Call and Data Tariffs Amid Rising Costs

Telecom Subscribers Face Higher Rates as Operators Adjust to Inflation and Forex Challenges
Airtel Nigeria, the country’s second-largest telecom operator, has adjusted its data and call tariffs, with some data plans increasing by up to 50%, according to details published on its website.

This move comes as telecom operators grapple with inflation, forex volatility, and rising operational costs.

While Airtel has yet to release an official statement, the company confirmed that the changes are necessary to sustain service quality.

“Yes, we have updated data prices today, and they are available on our website. However, the increase is not up to 50%,” a senior Airtel official told NIGPOST.

New Airtel Data Prices at a Glance

Here’s a breakdown of Airtel’s revised daily and weekly data plans:

₦100100MB (1 day)

MTN and Other Telecom Providers Also Adjust Rates

Airtel isn’t the only operator revising its prices. MTN Nigeria, the nation’s largest telecom provider, has also implemented higher call, SMS, and data charges in line with approvals from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Telecom companies argue that increased operational costs, especially those tied to network expansion and foreign exchange fluctuations, make these price hikes necessary.

However, subscribers will undoubtedly feel the financial pressure as communication costs continue to rise.
