Again, Vandals Target Transmission Line in Benue – TCN

Local Vigilantes Foil Attempt, One Suspect Arrested

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported another act of vandalism on its infrastructure, with Tower T195 along the Ugwuaji–Makurdi 330 kV transmission line being attacked on Saturday.

According to a statement released in Abuja by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the incident occurred at Watuolo village in Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.

However, the attack was unsuccessful thanks to the vigilance of community members, who noticed suspicious activity around 3 a.m. and intervened.

Their swift response led to the capture of one suspect, while the others managed to escape. The apprehended suspect was handed over to the police for further investigation.

TCN Commends Local Efforts, Calls for More Vigilance
Expressing gratitude for the community’s intervention, Mbah praised the residents of Watuolo village for their quick action in protecting the transmission infrastructure.

> “We commend the people of Watuolo for their bravery and timely intervention. We urge other communities hosting critical national infrastructure to follow this example and help safeguard these assets,” she said.

She further emphasized the importance of collaboration between security agencies and local communities in preventing vandalism, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around power installations.

> “As we continue working with security operatives and host communities, we appeal for increased vigilance.

The role of residents in securing power infrastructure is crucial to ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply,” Mbah added.

With recurring attacks on Nigeria’s power infrastructure, TCN continues to stress the need for stricter security measures and community cooperation to curb the menace of vandalism.
