Abuja Truck Explosion: Death Toll Rises to 10

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has confirmed that the death toll from the tragic truck explosion at Karu Bridge along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway has risen to 10.

Details of the Incident

Mr. Mark Nyam, Head of Forecasting Response and Mitigation at FEMD, stated that eight bodies were taken to the morgue at Karu Hospital, while one was deposited at Asokoro District Hospital and another at the National Hospital.

According to officials, more than 30 people sustained severe burns and are receiving treatment at various medical facilities, including Gwagwalada Teaching Hospital, the Federal Medical Centre in Keffi, and Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja.

The explosion also resulted in the destruction of at least 10 vehicles, further worsening the impact of the tragic accident.

Authorities Call for Caution

During a visit to the accident scene, the acting Director-General of FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, emphasized the need for strict adherence to traffic rules.

He warned against reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, and poor vehicle maintenance, urging motorists to prioritize safety.

He also reminded residents of the FCT to utilize the 112 emergency toll-free number for immediate assistance in critical situations.
