Abuja to Get Smarter Security: New FCT CP Unveils Tech-Driven Crime Strategy

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ajao Saka Adewale, has laid out an ambitious plan to tackle crime in Abuja using advanced technology and intelligence-driven policing.

Speaking during his first meeting with senior police officers on Thursday, CP Adewale revealed that his administration would deploy drones, CCTV cameras, and digital crime mapping to enhance real-time crime monitoring and response.

24/7 Command Center for Rapid Response

As part of the strategy, a 24/7 Command and Control Centre will be established to coordinate swift responses to emergencies, reducing police reaction time to distress calls.

“My mission is to ensure that every resident of the FCT feels safe in their homes, workplaces, and public spaces,” CP Adewale stated.

Key Focus Areas:

Intelligence-Driven Policing: Strengthening the State Intelligence Department (SID) to prevent crimes before they happen.

Proactive Crime Prevention: Combining intelligence, technology, and community partnerships to fight insecurity.

Stronger Police-Public Relations: Engaging community leaders, youth groups, and traditional rulers to address security challenges at the grassroots level.

CP Adewale also emphasized collaboration with other security agencies like the Nigerian Armed Forces, DSS, and NSCDC to boost intelligence-sharing efforts.

A Veteran in Law Enforcement

CP Ajao Saka Adewale, who officially assumed office on March 26, 2025, brings decades of experience to his new role. He has served in various key positions, including:

  • Commissioner of Police, Surveillance Squad, Akwa Ibom
  • Assistant Commissioner, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos
  • Deputy Commissioner, Airport Command, Lagos
  • Deputy Commissioner, Zonal CID, Zone 2, Lagos

With his wealth of experience and commitment to modern policing, Abuja residents can expect a more secure and technology-driven approach to crime prevention.
