Aba Power, Nigeria’s 12th electricity distribution company, is gearing up to launch a major prepaid meter rollout across parts of Abia State. The initiative, which begins next week, aims to improve electricity accountability and reduce estimated billing.
To ensure the success of this massive deployment, Aba Power has assembled a 10-man taskforce, led by Alfred Ategie, the company’s Head of Metering. Their mission? To deliver 20,000 prepaid meters in April and another 20,000 in May within the Aba Ring-fenced Area—covering nine of the 17 local government areas in the state.
The company’s leadership has drawn expertise from different departments to tackle the project. Among the team members are Anthony Ike Alozie, Chief Financial Officer at Geometric Power (Aba Power’s parent company); IniUyo from the Customer Care team; Sam Inengite, Deputy Head of Finance; Edise Ekong, Senior Manager of Branding and Communication; and Simeon Akpata, who heads Maintenance.
Managing Director of Aba Power, Ugo Opiegbe, described the team as “cross-sectional,” emphasizing that their diverse backgrounds will help streamline the implementation process and resolve any arising challenges swiftly.
Recognizing the importance of engaging local communities, the team also includes Barrister Mike Nwogu—an indigene of one of the host communities—who doubles as the company’s Community Relations, Regulatory, and Compliance Manager.
This move marks a significant step in Aba Power’s mission to provide transparent and reliable energy services while improving customer satisfaction across the region.
