Boko Haram Strikes Again: 12 Killed in Renewed Attack on Borno Village

Tragedy Hits Gwoza as Emir Calls for Urgent Military Action

In a heartbreaking turn of events, no fewer than 12 people have been killed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents along Kirawa Road and Bokko Ghide community in Pulka District, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State within the past 24 hours.

According to reports confirmed by the Emir of Gwoza, HRH Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, two of the victims were members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), ambushed and killed on Friday, April 25, 2025.

The remaining 10 victims, who were scavenging for firewood, were attacked and killed the following day, Saturday, April 26.

Expressing deep sorrow, Emir Timta decried the increasing wave of violence threatening the stability of Gwoza and its neighboring communities.

He warned that if these renewed attacks are not swiftly addressed, they could undermine the significant progress made by the Borno State Government and military forces in rehabilitating and resettling Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The tragedy comes barely a day after Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, urged the military to intensify its efforts against insurgents.

Speaking during a high-level meeting with a Federal Government delegation, which included the Honourable Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and other top military officials, Governor Zulum called for more aggressive and technologically advanced operations to root out terrorist elements.

“Unfortunately, two of our brave CJTF members and 10 innocent civilians lost their lives in these senseless attacks,” Emir Timta lamented. “We have buried the victims according to Islamic rites, and the injured have been taken to Maiduguri for urgent medical attention.”

The Emir also prayed for the souls of the departed, asking Allah to grant them Aljanatul Firdaus, and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Highlighting the broader impact of the violence, Timta noted that the attacks could deter farmers in the region from returning to their fields ahead of the crucial cropping season, further exacerbating economic hardships for local communities.

Despite acknowledging the efforts of both the government and military over the years, the Emir emphasized the urgent need for better technological warfare tools and more sophisticated military equipment to combat the persistent threat of Boko Haram.

As Gwoza mourns yet another devastating blow, the community’s call for stronger military intervention grows louder, hoping for lasting peace and security.
