In a powerful tribute to royal heritage and unity among the Yoruba people, the Lowa Adimula of Ile-Ife, High Chief Ademola Adeyeye, has extolled the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, describing him as an irreplaceable figure in Yorubaland.
Speaking on Friday during the 70th birthday celebration of the Ooni at the royal palace in Ile-Ife, the traditional ruler emphasized that no other monarch in Yorubaland holds the spiritual and traditional significance that the Ooni embodies.
“The Ooni cannot be compared with any traditional ruler,” Adeyeye stated. “He is their father, both in traditional and spiritual matters.”
The chief stressed that the Ooni’s role is more than ceremonial — he is the cultural cornerstone and spiritual symbol of unity for all Yoruba descendants.
On the topic of Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges, Adeyeye criticized the federal government’s centralization of security, calling it a major reason for rising insecurity across the nation.
He expressed concern that sidelining traditional institutions has weakened grassroots efforts in securing communities.
“Our government is responsible for the insecurity in the country,” he said. “We cannot exclude traditional rulers from the security system and expect peace.”
He urged the National Assembly to prioritize constitutional reforms that give traditional leaders meaningful roles in community governance and security — a system that once helped maintain peace and order across Nigeria’s regions.
