In a daring assault on law enforcement, three officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are currently receiving treatment after sustaining gunshot wounds during a night raid in Abuja’s Jahi area.
According to Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, the officers were on an intelligence-led mission Thursday night when they stormed an uncompleted building in the NNPC zone of Jahi.
The operation led to the recovery of significant drug quantities, including 74 bottles and 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grammes of tramadol (225mg), and 4.9 kilogrammes of skunk — a potent form of cannabis. Five Android phones were also seized.
However, as the operatives exited the scene, they were ambushed by armed men who opened fire on them. The shocking attack left one officer with a gunshot wound to the rib, while two others were hit in the back and leg.
The wounded officers were initially taken to the Police Clinic in Garki, Area 1, before being transferred to the National Hospital, Abuja, for further treatment.
NDLEA Chairman and retired Brigadier General, Mohammed Buba Marwa, who was on an official assignment in Kano, commended the quick response from the Police Clinic staff and personally reached out to the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital to ensure proper medical care for the injured.
He also made phone calls to the affected officers to encourage them and wish them a speedy recovery.
Marwa vowed that the agency would not rest until the attackers are apprehended. He emphasized that NDLEA will collaborate with other security forces to bring the culprits to justice and ensure that such a brazen act does not go unpunished.
