The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its readiness to dominate the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the 2027 general elections. National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, made this bold statement during a political rally in Abuja on Thursday.
Ganduje expressed confidence that the APC would not only clinch the presidential vote in the FCT but also win the Senate seat currently held by Labour Party’s Ireti Kingibe, along with the two House of Representatives seats.
Reflecting on the 2023 elections, where Labour Party’s Peter Obi defeated APC’s Bola Tinubu in both FCT and Lagos, Ganduje stated that political dynamics have since shifted. He claimed that the APC now controls over 60% of the FCT.
The highlight of the event was the defection of the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. He was joined by 12 ward councillors and more than 20,000 supporters.
Ganduje and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, welcomed the defectors during the “Unity Rally” held in Abuja.
“This is a major step in converting the FCT to APC territory,” Ganduje said. “The AMAC chairman, councillors, and thousands of supporters from all area councils have come into the APC. More than 60% of the political structure in the FCT is now with us.”
Akpabio praised the defectors for joining what he described as a party of progress under President Bola Tinubu. He credited the Renewed Hope Agenda for visible achievements in infrastructure, energy, and security.
Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, also addressed the rally, firmly stating that there would be no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027. “President Tinubu will be overwhelmingly re-elected. Other parties will simply escort us to victory,” Bello said.
He dismissed any speculations about discord between President Tinubu and former President Buhari, saying both leaders remain united and committed to APC’s growth.
APC’s National Vice Chairman (North-Central), Muazu Bawa Rijau, described the mass defection as historic and a sign that victory is in sight for the party.
FCT APC Chairman, Abdulmalik Usman, assured the party’s leadership that with over 20,000 new members from AMAC alone, more victories are expected across the councils.
“We are on the path to total control of the FCT in 2027,” Usman declared.
