Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect in the high-profile murder case of Super TV CEO Michael Ataga, gave a chilling account of how she discovered his lifeless body during her testimony before the Lagos High Court on Thursday, April 18, 2025.
Speaking before Justice Yetunde Adesanya at the Tafawa Balewa Square courthouse, the former 300-level Mass Communication student from the University of Lagos recounted the harrowing moment she walked into the short-let apartment in Lekki and found Ataga lying in a pool of blood.
“I came back from buying food and juice, knocked on the door, but there was no answer. I pushed the door open and saw blood on the floor. Then I saw Michael… he was on the ground, lifeless, and his eyes were half-shut,” Chidinma said emotionally. “I dropped everything and rushed to him. He had no pulse.”
Chidinma is facing charges of murder, conspiracy to murder, and theft alongside Adedapo Quadri and her sister, Chioma Egbuchu.
Led in evidence by her lawyer, Mr. Onwuka Egwu, Chidinma detailed how her relationship with Ataga started in November 2020, introduced by a mutual friend. She described Ataga as a kind man who supported her education and business.
According to her, Ataga had invited her to spend time with him ahead of his birthday celebration. He planned to celebrate privately with her before traveling to Abuja for a family event. They booked a short-let apartment at 19, Adewale Street, off Ologolo Road, Lekki, as his house in VGC was under renovation.
Chidinma recounted that they spent time together smoking, drinking, and eating. On June 14, Ataga asked for cannabis and Rohypnol, which she arranged through Quadri. The next day, he allegedly requested cocaine but couldn’t transfer money, so he asked Chidinma to pay.
She left the apartment to get food and juice, but upon returning, she discovered the tragic scene. Panicking, she packed some of her things, including Ataga’s personal documents, and left the apartment in a cab.
“I found his documents, bank statement, and ID cards in a brown envelope. I didn’t know what to do, so I just left,” she told the court.
The judge adjourned the trial to April 28, 2025, for further hearing.
