Tragedy in Edo: Suspected Herdsmen Kill Man, Abduct Pregnant Wife and Sister in Uluoke Community

A heart-wrenching tragedy has struck Uluoke community in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, as suspected herdsmen reportedly murdered a young father, Mr. Friday Pius, and abducted his pregnant wife along with her sister in a midnight attack.

The horrifying incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, between 1 am and 2 am, while the family was asleep. According to eyewitness reports, the attackers stormed the home of the deceased, killed him in cold blood, and dragged his pregnant wife and her sister into the nearby bush.

Shocked residents discovered the victim’s three children wailing in the pool of their father’s blood. The children were left unharmed but deeply traumatized by the gruesome event.

In response, women of the Uluoke community took to the streets in protest, demanding urgent action from government authorities and security agencies. They appealed to Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Hon. Dekeri Anamero, and other representatives of Etsako Federal Constituency for immediate intervention.

One of the protesting women, identified as Rashidetu, voiced the growing fears among locals. “We are tired. Our lands are no longer safe. These herdsmen have taken over our farms, uproot our cassava to feed their cows, kidnap women, and kill anyone who challenges them,” she said in a viral video.

The protestors highlighted their frustration over the long absence of effective security in the area, lamenting that many residents can no longer go to their farms without fear of attack.

Confirming the tragic event, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, stated that police operatives, in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters, are actively combing the forest in a bid to locate and rescue the abducted victims.

“Our men have been deployed for a sustained bush combing and rescue operation. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the kidnapped women and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Yamu assured.

As the community mourns the loss of Mr. Pius, they hold on to hope that his wife and her sister will be found safe. Meanwhile, residents continue to live in fear, urging the government to restore peace and protect their lives and livelihoods.
