A member of the dreaded Black Axe cult has confessed to the Anambra State Police that many of his fellow cultists have fled the state—and even the country—due to escalating threats from a rival group, the Eiye Confraternity.
The suspect, who was arrested after a violent clash in the Nkwelle-Ezunaka community in Oyi LGA, said his group is under serious threat. The fierce gun battle with members of the Eiye cult resulted in the death of two individuals and left others, including the suspect himself, with gunshot wounds.
In a chilling revelation, the cultist (whose name remains undisclosed) mentioned names of several members who have abandoned the gang, including Mmadukwe, Oluebube, Ikpe, Nwali, Uzor, and Obineke. According to him, many of these individuals have either moved to other Nigerian states or escaped to other African countries and Europe for safety.
“They vowed to wipe us out,” he said, referring to the Eiye group’s relentless attacks. He explained that the threat of extinction has forced even those who were pressured into joining the cult to flee.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochuckwu Ikenga, said he was not yet aware of the incident but promised to investigate and update the media.
However, another senior officer, speaking anonymously, confirmed the story and expressed concern over the growing fear among innocent residents of the community, who now live in constant fear.
Police say they are actively working to control the situation and bring the perpetrators of these cult clashes to justice.
