Wike Rejects Reconciliation with Fubara, Says No Apology Has Been Made

The political tension in Rivers State continues as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed recent calls for reconciliation between him and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

This follows an appeal from ex-militant leader Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, who urged Wike to forgive and make peace with Fubara.

In a statement released through his media aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike made it clear that forgiveness is not automatic. According to him, Fubara has neither acknowledged any wrongdoing nor sought forgiveness. “Forgiveness only comes when someone admits their fault and asks for pardon. Fubara has done neither,” Olayinka emphasized.

Tompolo had earlier called for calm and unity in the state, likening the situation to a parent forgiving a rebellious child. He expressed optimism that peace talks would resolve the ongoing crisis and restore order in Rivers politics.

But Wike’s camp responded with skepticism. “You can’t talk about forgiveness if no offence has been admitted,” Olayinka said. “Let’s assume Fubara wronged the minister—has he made any move to seek reconciliation?”

Olayinka further explained that Wike’s issues with Fubara were based on principles of governance and loyalty, not personal grudges. “The minister only advised Fubara to follow the rule of law and not abandon those who supported his rise to power,” he said.

He also questioned the governor’s sudden change of attitude. “At what point did Wike become a problem to Fubara? During their time working together, Wike was never the enemy,” he added.

Olayinka ended with a thought-provoking proverb: “It’s like asking a doctor to prescribe medicine for a patient who refuses to take it—what’s the point?”
